Dance Styles We Offer

Ballet
Precision & Grace

Ballet is a classical dance form that originated in the 15th-century Italian Renaissance courts and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia.

Ballet is characterized by graceful and precise movements, often accompanied by classical music. It requires discipline, strength, and flexibility and emphasizes proper posture and body alignment.

Ballet has many different styles and techniques, such as the Vaganova method, the Cecchetti method, and the Balanchine technique. GMB Dance follows and aligns with the British syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance.

It is a beautiful and expressive art form that continues to captivate audiences around the world.

Students may pursue their ballet exams with the RAD through GMB. Click here more details.

Jazz
Flexibility & Dynamism

Set to upbeat music, jazz is an energetic and expressive dance style that blends precision with personality. Dancers explore body isolations, quick footwork, dynamic shapes, and stylized choreography, all while developing flexibility, coordination, and stage presence.

Rooted in African American culture and influenced by both African and European traditions, jazz dance emerged in the early 20th century and rose to fame through the golden age of Hollywood musicals. Known for its syncopated rhythms and improvisational flair, jazz continues to evolve — combining classic technique with fresh, contemporary influences.

Today, jazz remains a vibrant and popular style that celebrates individuality, musicality, and the pure joy of movement.

Contemporary
Breaking Boundaries

Contemporary dance is a genre that refuses to be boxed in. While it often borrows movement from ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, and even acrobatics or clowning, it’s defined less by what it looks like and more by how it’s created and performed.

At its core, contemporary dance is about exploration and invention. It actively pushes boundaries — challenging traditional choreography and embracing unique, often unconventional, ways of moving.

No two contemporary classes are exactly the same. Each one reflects the teacher’s influences — from modern techniques like Graham or Horton, to ballet, jazz, or even freestyle improvisation. You might dance without counts, without music, or with choreography born directly from your own movement in the moment.

Contemporary classes offer a dynamic and supportive space to take creative risks, deepen technique, and discover your own expressive voice.

Tap
Sound Expression

Tap dance turns movement into music. With specially designed shoes that create rhythmic sounds on the floor, dancers become both movers and musicians.

This style builds precision, coordination, and a strong sense of musicality. Dancers learn clear, articulate footwork while exploring timing, rhythm patterns, and dynamics. As skills develop, tap offers a unique outlet for creative expression — especially through improvisation, where dancers can shape their own style and connect deeply with the music.

Whether you're just starting out or have years of experience, tap dancing is a joyful and rewarding way to express yourself, one step at a time.

For the 2025/2026 Season, Contemporary and Tap are offered as a combo class for the Primary dance level. This works well because it allows young dancers to explore two dynamic styles in a single class — helping them build rhythm, musicality, and expressive movement all at once. It also keeps things fresh and fun, while supporting their overall coordination and confidence as they grow.

Pre-Dance

(ages 3 & 4)

Preschool dance promotes artistic, cultural, and social awareness and encourages multidisciplinary education. As well as benefiting their overall health, preschool dance helps develop social skills as your little dancer begins to grow.

Primary

(ages 5–7)

Solid foundational technique taught in a fun, creative environment that nurtures confidence, coordination, and a love of dance.

In these classes, young dancers build on the basics of a structured dance class while exploring their creativity and unique movement style. Our goal is to help students develop body control, spatial awareness, and the foundational skills needed to build strength, flexibility, and stamina across all dance genres.

Junior

Dancers continue to strengthen their technique while building confidence, musicality, and stage presence.

Our classes are thoughtfully designed to support skill development at this pivotal stage, helping students refine their fundamentals and gradually take on more complex movement and choreography with growing confidence and joy.

Youth

Take a deeper dive into technical training, artistic expression, and choreography in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Adult

(ages 19+)

Keep Evolving. Keep Dancing.

Being an adult doesn’t mean letting go of your love for movement, music, or creative expression. Whether you're returning to the studio or stepping into it for the first time, our adult classes offer a welcoming space to explore, grow, and reconnect with dance.

Here, you'll build strength, flexibility, and confidence while learning new techniques and rediscovering the joy of movement. Most importantly, you'll become part of a fun-loving, encouraging community where your journey is uniquely your own.
